Costa Rica

Morning, outside the Cabina.

View of the ocean on our way to the Sky Trek zip line tour in Monteverde.

Getting our gear... wondering why we need helmets....

The lift was fun -- a little like the bucket lifts at Six Flags.

It was right about here that I realized in my stomach that these buckets only took us up the mountain, and I had to come down in a harness... very high up...

Very cool views from the buckets.

Took us up into the clouds... and above the clouds...

The lines were very long, mostly back and forth between two different peaks. It's a good ride, plenty of time to look around and enjoy the views.

We had a few guides who stayed with us the whole time -- one of them would zip down first and the other one or two would stay at the top to hook us onto the line, until the last person had gone.

We went to a hummingbird garden afterwards. I didn't get any focused hummingbird pictures, but the flowers were beautiful... and still. :)

Coati sightings!

Here's the garden -- it was a little tacky... ok, a lot tacky, especially with the concrete columns -- but it felt so good to sit own and eat lunch.

We went on a walk in the woods, on a Sky Walk bridge tour.

I like the suspension bridges... the higher and looser, the better! We had great views of the forest, looking down on the treetops and streams.

Looking down on the tops of some very tall trees.

The clouds pass by,having come over the mountaintops, very quickly.

Later, we went to a well-known cheese factory. We think some of the farmers we know sold milk to this business. This place had an ice cream shop (what you're seeing), milk that comes out of a hose, and giant vats making cheese (almost identical to the cheese factory on Dirty Jobs).

Popped collar... confused child.

On our way back, we made so many "oooohhhhh"s and "aaaaaahhhhh"s when we saw each view that our driver stopped at a pull-off point, turned around, smiled at us, and said, "Cinco minutos." ***These are definitely worth opening in a new window! Right-click the pictures and select "open in a new window."

In the lower, right-hand corner of this picture, you can see the top of La Catarata de San Luis, our waterfall!
Below: Back at the Ecolodge, waiting for dinner, and later watching the sunset.

I came across a huge cane toad on my way back to the Cabina. These have toxins and poisons, which kept me at a distance.
